Message from Mr Lammin VI, Squad Coach

Dear All,

2014 – Another Great Year!

Now that the final squad session of 2015 is over I would like to start by thanking you all for your efforts during 2014 which has seen the PUMA Squad compete at the following tournaments with great success:

  • PUMA World Open
  • ITF European Championships
  • The Holland Cup
  • ITF England English Championships
  • ITF World Cup
  • ITA Irish Cup

It has been a big year for PUMAs competitors with some fantastic results at all of the above tournaments which comes down to the hard work that you have all put in. PUMA competitors have made a big impression within ITF England and the ITF as a whole during our first year as members of the ITF.  I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs. McColl and Mr Pixton for their help during the past 12 months, especially when I was unavailable as a result of ITF England Squad sessions, without their hard work it simply wouldn’t have been possible to achieve the results that we have.  Finally I would like to thank all the parents who have given up their time to enable their children to attend squad sessions, again it wouldn’t be possible without your support!

2015 – Big Changes and Opportunities in the Year Ahead

As you should already be aware the format of squad training will be changing going forward to a more regionally based system which we hope will enable more students to attend squad training sessions and potentially represent PUMA and ITF England in time.  The plan is for sessions to be run in 4 areas, PUMA North, Bristol, Newbury and Devon (with sessions moving around Devon).  National sessions will still run in the lead up to squad trips, the first of which will be to the Holland Cup on the weekend of the 11th/12th of April, and I’m pleased to be able to announce the following 4 dates for the early part of next year:

  • Sunday 11th January – Yate Outdoor Sports Centre
  • Sunday 25th January – Oasis Leisure Centre
  • Sunday 22nd March – Yate Outdoor Sports Centre
  • Sunday 5th April – Yate Outdoor Sports Centre

Selections for the Holland Cup will be made after the session on Sunday the 25th of January and attendance of the first 2 sessions in January is compulsory (barring exceptional circumstances) if you wish to be considered for selection.  All sessions will run from 10am to 1pm and are open to all students with further sessions to be confirmed for the autumn in the lead up to Ireland.

I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Tiegan Flay, Courtney Smith, Michael Whitlock, Adam and Jenny Swain who have secured selection for the ITF England Team for both the ITF World and European Championships taking place next year.  Other squad members still have the chance of earning selection when the remaining spots on the teams are announced at the beginning of March.

Open Dutch 2015

A few people have expressed an interest in attending the Open Dutch Tournament in Eindhoven on the 18th of January 2015.  If you are interested in attending this tournament then I would be grateful if you could email me asap so that I can get an idea of possible numbers (please note that there will not be any funding for this event).  There are cheap flights available from Stansted to Eindhoven and I would expect the whole cost of the trip to be around £150 per person assuming that you only stay for one night.  For those still looking to gain selection for the ITF England Teams for next year this represents a great opportunity to strengthen your case – the tournament is a true ITF one and was attended by around 750 competitors from 18 countries this year.  In addition, a number of the ITF England coaching team are planning on attending (possibly including myself depending on interest from PUMA students).

I would like to finish by wishing you all a very Happy Christmas, have a rest and I look forward to seeing you all in the New Year!

Mr. Daniel Lammin VI Degree

PUMA and ITF England Coach
